Landlords, do you know what the tenant's general duties are under the ordinance?

According to the Chicago Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance (also known as the “RLTO”) the tenant, the tenant's family and invited guests must comply with all obligations imposed specifically upon tenants by the Municipal Code, including:
  • Buying and installing working batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors within tenant's apartment.
  • Keeping the unit safe and clean.
  • Using all equipment and facilities in a reasonable manner.
  • Not deliberately or negligently damaging the unit.
  • Not disturbing other residents.
If your tenants are not complying, Bradford Miller Law, P.C. can help you resolve any landlord tenant issues. When it comes to tenants, always consult the RLTO ordinance before acting.
