Raising rent after a dispute or complaint

If your tenant made a complaint or you recently had a dispute, it is not advisable to turn around and raise the rent. If you do, it might look like you are harboring bad feelings and raising the rent in retaliation. Many states specifically prohibit raising rent within a time period established by state law.
